Upon entry, you are met by a watchtower made from oriented strand board (OSB) and 2x4s. At undetermined intervals, a bright overhead security lamp intermittently flashes, a reference to the looming and increased reality of panopticism. (When we listened to our queer and trans incarcerated pen pals and connections, they remarked about new levels of heightened security and the feeling of being watched and scrutinized even while they served their time). Regardless of our collective experiences with police, we are all impacted by the structures of their gaze, by the weight of potential enforcement.
